It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? is a place to meet up and share what you have been, are and about to be reading over the week. It’s a great post to organise yourself. It’s an opportunity to visit and comment, and er… add to that ever growing TBR pile! So welcome in everyone. This meme started with J Kaye’s Blog and then was taken up by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at the Book Date. And here we are!
Merry Christmas! I hope you all had a wonderful day with family and friends. Without having my grandchildren here, Christmas was a little quieter, but nice just the same. I did get some good books as gifts for future reading, and I am looking forward to them.
This past week I finished two novels, Say Goodbye for Now, by Catherine Ryan Hyde, and a cozy mystery by Joanne Pence, Bell, Cook, and Candle.
I was asked to read Say Goodbye for Now as part of a book tour. Set in Texas in 1959, the story centers around an embittered female doctor who lives along, Pete, a young white boy who finds an injured wolf mix and takes the wolf to the female doctor for help as the vet in town won’t touch him. Pete makes friends with a new boy, Justin, in town who happens to be black. In his bigoted town this is taboo, and it creates problems for Pete and Justin, Justin’s father, and the doctor. Gritty read, but well done.
Bell, Book, and Candle is an Angie Almafi mystery. I really did not like the first one I read. I tried this one, and while the plot was interesting and had some unusual characters, Angie is still a vapid, self-centered dingbat. No more Angie Almafi mysteries for me.
Curently, I am finishing These Is My Words, The DIARY of Sarah Agnes Prine, 1881 – 1901, by Nancy E. Turner. I love it and think it could be made into a great movie. I have started Love Life and See Good Days by Emily Freeman and The New Policeman by Kate Thompson.
Have a great week! Happy Reading!
