“You have not lived today until you have done something for someone who can never repay you.” – John Bunyan
If you have Facebook or just eyes to see, you have no doubt caught sight of many, many horrific pictures and posts online about neglected and abused animals. Sadly, those just don’t go away. The raging epidemic of animal abuse and neglect just leaves me reeling; feeling sick and disgusted with some people who dare to call themselves “human beings” but really aren’t very humane at all. I don’t want to feel that way – I hate to feel that way – but thankfully some of this ill will that I feel inside is tempered by knowing that there are people out there who truly do care about the ones who can’t speak for themselves. I recently discovered a charity called The Second Chance Rescue. They take animals in the worst of conditions and help them by giving them life-saving veterinary care, love and sometimes just the food and shelter that they have been cheated out of. They then try their darndest to place the animals in loving homes.
Now I know – gosh do I know – that money is tight, especially at this time of year, but I keep thinking if everyone just donated $1 to the cause, we could really make a big difference. The cost of care and rehabilitation for just one sick and debilitated animal is thousands of dollars but if we all banded together, by donating even just as little as a dollar, we could – in the words of Larry the Cable guy – ‘get ‘er done’.
The Second Chance Rescue is absolutely not endorsing this post nor have they asked me to write it but I felt the need to do so and dear Mama Vicky encouraged me too. Let’s help the helpless in any way we can!
