What’s Cooking in Mama’s Kitchen? (French Breakfast Puffs!)


The recipe I am going to share makes a great start to breakfast. The recipe is easy to make and you can double the recipe with ease if you’d like. Try serving them warm to your family and visitors for a holiday breakfast or brunch.

French Breakfast Puffs

½ cup sugar
1/3 cup shortening
½ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 egg
1 cup milk
1 ½ cups sifted flower
1 ½ teaspoon baking powder
½ cup sugar
6 TBSP. melted butter
1 teaspoon cinnamon

In a mixer bowl cream together the first ½ cup sugar, shortening, and the egg.
Sift together flour, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg and add to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beating well after each addition. Fill 12 greased muffin cups or cupcake papers 2/3 full. Bake in preheated 350’ oven for 20 to 25 minutes. Combine sugar and cinnamon. Remove muffins from oven; immediately dip muffins in melted butter or margarine and then in cinnamon/sugar mixture till coated. Serve warm. Makes 12 muffins.
