Greasy Frosting

The name is weird and some of the ingredients aren’t the traditional ones you would expect to find in a frosting, but trust me, it is good. I don’t like whipped cream or marshmallow frosting. If you are out of powdered sugar, no problem. Here is a yummy frosting. I don’t know where my mom got this recipe, but I’ve eaten it all my life. Mmmm.

Measure 3 tablespoons flour into a saucepan. Slowly stir in 2/3 cup of milk and cook over a low heat. Cook until it becomes a very smooth custard. Chill in refrigerator until very cold.

Cream 2/3 cup shortening and 2/3 cup granulated sugar together until smooth. (In hot weather it is a good idea to chill this also. I live in southern Cali and have never chilled this part.)

Then pour in custard mix straight from the refrigerator and mix well together. Afterwards add vanilla (small amount) and mix again. (I use my electric mixer so that the frosting is really smooth.) Add food coloring if desired.

Bon Appétit!
